Mauritania is currently selected by the African Union and the United Nations to host the international forum as well as the commemorative festivities of the African Environment Day and Wangari maathai, 2017 edition.
This is yet another proof of our country’s success and confidence in environmental efforts at the continental level. The choice to hold this African forum in Nouakchott is justified by the achievements realized by Mauritania in terms of environmental protection and especially with regard to the introduction of clean and renewable energy in its energetic circuit.
Today, Mauritania is a continental leader, with its 40% share of renewable energies in global energies production.
The government, through the Ministry of Petroleum, Energy and Mines, continues to support the prices of domestic butane gas in order to protect forests and vegetation cover and to popularize the use of gas Instead of charcoal, used in rural and semi-urban areas.
The sectoral policy at the level of Hydrocarbons aims at :

• Establish a solid waste management policy.
The participation of the department in the success of this event was decisive with the efforts of human, financial and logistical resources were mobilized for the setting up and running of 12 stands distributed between the central departments of the ministry, public institutions under tutelage and Mining and petroleum operators.
At the end of the day’s programs, a field visit was prepared and carried out at the two high places that symbolize and materialize the government’s efforts as well as the visionary policy aimed at further introducing clean and renewable energies.
