Mission of the Ministry in charge of mines organizes meetings with the stakeholders of gold mining.
A mission of the Ministry of Mines has just completed an information and awareness-raising tour with stakeholders and gold panning operators in the city of Chami and other localities such as Tasiast and Tijirit. The visit took place in the period from 11 to 14 October, 2017.
The department in charge of the mines reiterates by this occasion that the will to modernize the sector is firm in application of the directives of HE Mr. Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz, President of the republic.
The mission included the adviser in charge of cooperation and communication, the Director General of Mines (DGM), Director of Control and Monitoring of Operators (DCSO) as well as the monitoring frameworks involved in the gold mining case and the small-scale exploitation.
The visit of artisanal gold extraction and processing sites by traditional and semi-industrial methods shows the government’s effort to set up support for operators in this field and thus achieve efficiency in all areas. The visit also allowed to go to meet the miners on their work field and to inform them about the latest developments of the legal texts so the mission explained the vision of the department by sharing with them the novelties that the department intends to put in place so to guarantee the harmonious development of the gold mining sector.
The objective of consolidating mutual trust and strengthening the communication and consultation bridges has been achieved as well as the other information and awareness objectives.
The mission also emphasized the shared goal of reducing potential environmental impacts, ensuring compliance with safety standards and reducing pollution by opening the new "Chami - Ta’adeen Mining Services Center". "
It was also emphasized the need to respect international licensing agreements and the importance of respecting the delimitation of permits already granted to mining operators already on the spot.
Through the interventions of all parties, the mission noted the commitment of all to the choices of the State and their willingness to implement the requirements of the law and the provisions governing the sector.
The mission congratulated the miners for their level of awakening, willingness and discipline at work and their participation in the national economy through the development of mechanisms governing the field.
Given the rapid evolution of the gold exploration zones, the speakers stressed the importance of further development and that the Ministry in charge of mining can continue the realization of its modernization of the sector and that it can continue to carry out its sovereign tasks of planning and continuous development to ensure better access for Mauritanian citizens to the natural wealth of the country.
